The Symposium 2005 will again be held at The Higher Ground Conference & Retreat Center, West Harrison, Indiana. The center is located in a rustic area surrounded by rolling, tree filled, hills and has a small stream,called "Logan Creek".
Roadways wind through out the Complex providing space for quiet morning and evening walks and an great opportunity to view the habitant of local small birds and animals. In the early Fall mornings there is often a mist which arises from the brook and small ponds.
Near-by
  • West Harrison, IN is located approximately 30 West of Downtown Cincinnati and 20 miles Northwest of Lawrenceburg, IN.The Whitewater River, noted for excellent canoeing and rafting, flows through West Harrision ending at the Ohio River.
  • Cincinnati, located on the Ohio River is noted for the "Reds" baseball and the "Bengal's" football teams as well as a center for colleges, medical research, arts, fine restaurants, and home to Procter & Gamble and GE jet engine manufacturing.
  • Lawrenceburg, further down the Ohio River has one of the world's largest distilleries and home to a famous Victoria River Boat gambling casino.
  • Louisville, KY about 100 miles South East is home to the Louisville Slugger Bat Company - a place to tour and see production wood turning of major league baseball bats. (Open for tours - call the Company for details)
  • Brookville, IN is located approximately 15 miles West on Rt. 52. The village of Brookville is home to a very large, U. S. Army, Corps of Engineers, lake and water shed which was built to help control flooding of the Ohio River.This huge lake provides a vast array of outdoor recreational activities and water sports.
  • Dayton, OH located about 65 miles to the Northeast is home the the world famous U.S. Air Force Museum, (open to the public), at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Dayton also has the Wright Brothers Museum and the renowned Dayton Art Museum.

Interstate I-74
  • Going East or West on I-74 in Indiana,(approx. 3 miles West of the Ohio border), exit I-74 at exit #169 to Rt. 52. Go right, (West, towards Brookville, IN), on Rt. 52 for 1/8 mile.
    Turn left on to SR #46 go 1-1/2 miles on SR #46.
    On right hand side is Higher Ground
    Follow signs in Higher Ground complex to Turning 2005.
  • From the Greater Cincinnati Aiport, exit airport, and take 1-275 West for approximately 15 miles. Then I-74 West for about 5 miles and exit, at exit #169,- Rt. 52. (Then follow the above directions).
Parking at Higher Ground
There is plenty of parking space available at the lodges, dorms and for commuters there is a large parking lot at the building housing the turning demonstrations and vendor booths.
Instant Gallery

The Instant Gallery is for all attendees to exhibit and to view works by others. The Instant Gallery is located on the lower level of the main lodge and is but a very short walk from the demonstration building. Work on display will include objects from demonstrators and the participants who are attending the Symposium. Please bring up to three exhibits for the Instant Gallery and register the pieces at the reception desk located at the Instant Gallery.
New Buildings
If you have previously attended a Symposium at Higher Ground you will find that a number of new buildings have sprung up since your last visit. The new construction has provided a larger facility and you will find a the layout of this Symposium is greatly improved and adds to your comfort and pleasure.
Time
Higher Ground and the area around Higher Ground Observes Eastern Daylight Savings Time which is the same as Ohio and different from most of Indiana.
