 WHAT'S UP

The OVWG works better when everyone participates.

We have a very special demonstration planned for the January meeting. You're going to get a chance to see how the spiral platter and the cube are done. Jim Duxbury was in our Learning Center this past summer and taught these projects to the lucky few that got into his class. James Brenza and David Wright had the opportunity to take these classes and they have agreed to share what they learned. Both the cube and the spiral can be made into a variety of objects from jewelry to lamps.

Don't forget the new Social Hour starting this month. Come early and enjoy breakfast treats and spending time with other turners. Club meeting will start at 9 am. as usual.

We've brought back Saturday open shops and from the number of people that showed up, this is what you want! Look for more Saturday's on the calendar. Don't forget to register for open shops.

Chris Ramsey will be the demonstrator in February. His classes are full so plan on attending the Saturday meeting. He is going to demo how he carves the feet on his natural edge bowls.

Coming in March will be Donna Banfield. She will conduct a one day class and a two day class. To devote more time to learning the skills that Donna is known for, both of these will be non turning classes. You will need to bring turned unfinished items to class. Look for more class information and descriptions in the class information section of the calendar.

If you haven't opened your OVWG news letter yet, you're in for a treat. Our new News Letter Editor, John Peter, did a great job. You'll find it filled with information on club activities and pictures of club events. If you want to be a part of putting together the news letter, contact John at jpeter45242@gmail.com  All volunteer positions can be as little or as much time as you want to spend helping out your club.

Dennis Reed conducted an Introduction to Woodturning and the OVWG Learning Center. Ron Hanssen and Mary Carol Meinken were there to assist in the class. We had five people signed up to take the class for the first time and one person took advantage of the revised class structure to take the class again.  Dennis has put his own spin on this revised class to emphasis safety as well as proper use of equipment. Each person took home a completed ice cream scoop. Pretty good for mostly new turners!
