 WHAT'S UP

The OVWG works better when everyone participates.

I wonder if Walt Whitman had 2020 in mind when he said "keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you"?
The OVWG is a club made up of some of the most amazing people. Some have become members to learn and others have remained members to teach. What ever brought you to the OVWG, I hope you know how much your support of this great club is appreciated. The Board would like to thank each one of you that have renewed your membership for the upcoming year. We would like to give a very special Thank You to those people who have signed up as a new member even though we have been temporally closed. The faith you have put into the OVWG is wonderful. As a member of this club for so many years, I can tell you that your faith and patience will be rewarded when we are able to open back up.
The goal of the Board has not changed. We want to emphasize the social aspect of the club. We will continue to bring in top notch professional demonstrators from around the world. We want the Learning Center to become true to its name and be a learning center where you as members can come and learn from each other in a class setting. We have so many talented members that have shown their willingness to share their knowledge. For those that may be new to the club and think of us as only a woodturning club, you may be amazed at the wide range of skills that our members have. We have members that are known for turning ornaments, natural edge bowls, and pens. You will also meet turners that can do things with wood that will leave you wondering how they did that. The OVWG has a few of the BEST segmenting artists known in woodturning. We have members that will impress you with what they can create by casting resin. We have others that look for the ugliest peice of wood they can find and bring out the beauty in it. Some have learned to be excellent turners but wanted to take their craft farther. They've learned to pierce, burn, texture, color, and carve. Not only will these members show you how to do what it has taken them years to learn, but most of them will invite you into their own shops and guide you through the process of what equipment to buy. This can save you the frustration and expense of buying the wrong equipment and trying to learn how to use it. So, is the wait for the OVWG to open back up worth it? You bet it is!
For those members that are concerned about opening to soon, the Board is determined to keep your safety as our first and only priority. I have personally heard from so many of you and the Board truly appreciates your support.
It's too soon to say what month we will be able to open, but I can tell you, I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
