Recommended By-Law Changes

At its March meeting, the OVWG Board voted unanimously to recommend two changes to the By-Laws.

The first is a recommendation to add to Article XVIII “Officers” 

Section 4 language to expand the Board of Directors from 5 to 7 by 

adding the Past President and the Chair of the Symposium Committee.  

The reason for the proposal is to increase representation of the membership, add to all Board discussions the experience and input of the Past President, and better exchange information with the Symposium Committee.

Attached is a complete copy of the proposal that was submitted to the Board.  It includes the existing Article XVIII Section 4, with the recommended addition in boldface.

The second is a recommendation to replace all of the existing language of Article XXV “Amendments” with new language.  The first reason for changing the Article is to make the text of proposed By-Law changes completely transparent.  The second reason is to clarify how proposals are made to the Board and how the Board will respond to proposals.

Attached is a complete copy of the proposal that was submitted to the Board.  It includes the existing Article XXV, using strike through to indicate the existing text that would be removed, and boldface to indicate the suggested new text.

A ballot is being prepared to allow all members to vote on these two suggested changes to the By-Laws.  Once reviewed, the ballot will be accessible on the OVWG website and instructions for accessing and completing the ballot will be sent to all the members.

It is suggested that members print the attached recommended changes to the By-Laws, as they will not be repeated on the ballot.
