Subject: Member Appreciation Luncheon
From: Jerry W Warner

Registration for the Member Appreciation Luncheon is now complete and the numbers of meals needed has been relayed to the caterer.   I know that this is a very busy time of the year and I want to thank those who will be attending (59 members and guests) for including the OVWG in your plans.  I also want to remind attendees of the schedule of events for the day.  I hope each member will participate in the gift exchange and the contest and bring some of your recent pieces for show and tell. Plans for the day and the schedule to be followed are provided below.

Contest:  As with past contests, there will be three levels of competition - Novice; Advanced; and Master.  For each category there will be first, second, and third place winners as well as an honorable mention.  There will also be a Best of Show winner.  Each winner will receive a ribbon as recognition of her/his accomplishment.  Only members will be allowed to vote for the three levels of competition, but members as well as guests will be able to vote for the Best of Show.  All members are encouraged to enter a piece in the contest so as to increase the competition.

The criteria for contest pieces is very simple.  To enter the contest you must submit a turned wooden piece of some sort.  Entries may include such things as bowls, hollow vessels, platters, natural edge pieces, spindle turned items, or anything else that you can think of. You may embellish it in any way that you choose.  Once it is complete it must fit into a cube that is 9" X 9" X 9".  All items for entry will be checked for size compliance as they are entered into the contest.

Gift Exchange:  A highlight of this event is the gift exchange where you have an opportunity to take home a nice turned item made by a fellow member of the OVWG.  However, only individuals who bring a piece of their work to contribute will be able to select an exchange piece. The item you bring should be one that you are proud of and that you would be happy to retain in your personal collection - not something that you just want to get rid of because it didn't turn out well.

Show and Tell:  As with most monthly meetings we will have tables for you to display some of  your recently turned pieces.  This gives you a chance to display your work and to tell others about the materials and techniques you used in making it.  Letting others see your work may inspire them to come up with designs they had not considered before.  This is also an opportunity for you to ask others to critique your work so that you can make improvements on future pieces.

Lunch:  We will have a catered lunch with three menu options.  It will be FREE to members and one spouse or guest. You will be asked to register, specify menu choice for yourself & spouse or quest.

A tentative agenda for the day is shown below:

10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  Doors open for sign-in; registration of contest pieces; deposit gift exchange pieces, visit with other attendees.
