About this event

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to make a deal with the devil to use a skew chisel.  What you do need is to learn and apply a few basic skills, which is the goal of this class.  We will cover setting up and sharpening the skew, tool presentation to the wood, and body positioning.  We will learn these basic cuts with the skew:  peeling cut, planing cut, shoulder cut, V-cut, and rolling (beading) cut.

All students should have at least taken the OVWG basics classes and feel comfortable using spindle and bowl gouges. Students should bring their own skews, and skews will be available for those who need them.

With this foundation in hand (and some practice), students will gain an incredibly useful addition to their turning toolbox.
