About this event

Ever had a left-over log from your favorite tree that’s too small for a good sized bowl, but too wide for spindle turning? Join us and follow along as we create a natural edged winged bowl from a branch log. You will learn the same techniques Andrew McQuilkin demonstrated at this year’s TurnFest. Your favorite bowl gouge, spindle gouge and parting tool will be enough to get it done. Winged Bowls are Andrew’s favorite ‘Brown and Round’ to turn because the techniques are challenging, but the steps are straightforward, and the results are beautifully organic. Intro to Wood Turning is required and experience successfully turning bowls is highly recommended. Note: Bring gloves (for the challenging part).
Tools Needed: bowl gouge, spindle gouge, and parting tool
Skill Level: novice and above (class minimum: turned a few bowls)
Pre-requisite: Must have completed the Introduction to Woodturning and the OVWG Learning Center; Read and be familiar with AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and the Glossary of Woodturning Terms (available on the OVWG website in the document library)or by clicking the following links: AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines.
