Fellow Woodturners:
The Board of Directors of the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild would like to invite you to join us for our annual Member Appreciation Luncheon on December 12, 2026. It will be held in the large meeting room of the Kennedy Heights Arts Center Annex at 6620 Montgomery Road, Kennedy Heights, OH 45213. Doors will open at 10:00 a.m.and we should finish by about 1:00 p.m.
So that we can tell the caterers how many meals to prepare, we need to have you go to the OVWG website and register. We have three menu options for you to choose from and we will provide a selection of drinks. To register, click the 'Register Now' button below. (Please log in first as a member before you register) When you register, you will be asked if you are bringing a guest and to specify which meal each of you wish to have. If you need help with this, let me know. In order for the caterer to have time to prepare everything appropriately, we need to have you register and choose your meal by noon November 30, 2026.
As in past years, we are asking attendees to bring a dessert to share with others. When you register, you will be able to indicate what you are bringing. We ask that you bring cookies, bars (lemon or other fruit bars), or other things that are precut and do not have to be dished out - no pies, puddings, or other things that can be messy to handle.
Tables will be decorated to reflect the season. However, this is an area where we can use your help. We invite you to bring turned or other home made ornaments to decorate your table with. Please note that the Guild does not assume any responsibility for these items and it is up to you to make sure you collect them before you go home.
In addition to lunch, other activities are planned as follows:
1. Gift exchange: To participate in the gift exchange, you should bring a turned piece to exchange with another woodturner. This should be an item that you are proud of which shows off your woodturning skills. It should be wrapped or bagged so that it is not visible to others. When you arrive, you will give it to a member of the Luncheon Committee who will give you a numbered ticket. When your number is called, you will be able to select a gift from all that are available at the time. If you don't bring a gift, you don't get one to take home.
2. Show and tell: This is a chance for you to show and talk about your work to other OVWG members and guests. Feel free to bring several pieces.
3. Contest: Capture the Magic of Winter. Transform a simple blank into a celebration of the season.
Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned turner, create a piece that captures winter’s quiet beauty—an ornament (or a whole set), an embellished snowy landscape with trees and wildlife, a cheerful snowman, or anything your imagination can turn from the wood. The only rule: the heart of your work must be turned. Explore whatever techniques call to you, then finish it natural, painted, or any way that brings your winter vision to life. Let the lathe become your window into the season and show us what winter looks like through your eyes and hands.
4. Friendly conversation: We encourage you to initiate conversations with other OVWG members and guests. You may find that you have much in common with them.
As always this is a busy time of the year, but we hope that you can find time to join us for the celebration of another good year for the OVWG. We look forward to seeing you on December 12.
