Here are the materials and supplies requirements for Keith Bundy’s ornament class.
We will provide the wood, two part 5 minute epoxy, and Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating by Krylon. The $10 charge for these items will be added onto the $25 class fee.
As much as possible we suggest using your own tools that you can use at home after the class.
We will have the following items available for you to use:
- Small hollowing tools (see note below)
- Pin chuck (#31070) and wire gauge bits (#100-255). These can be bought thru Woodworker’s Supply for $6.99 each if you want to buy your own ahead of the class.
- Straws (to blow out shavings from inside the ornament globe)
- Vernier Calipers
- Thin parting tool (See, for example, the Robert Sorby Narrow Parting Tool, part number 1031210001 on the Craft Supplies website.)
- “Regular” parting tool
- 3/8” drill bit
- 3” Sandpaper discs and sheet sandpaper thru 400 grit
- Pencils
If possible, please bring the following items:
- 3/4” spindle roughing gouge (we have these at the Learning Center or you can bring your own)
- 3/8” spindle gouge (we have these at the Learning Center or you can bring your own)
- 1/2” square scraper
- Ruler
- Drill for power sanding and 3” mandrel, if you have them. We will have some drills and mandrels available.
Note on hollowing tools: If you have hollowing tools, please bring them. We will have several sets available. If you wish to purchase these ahead of the of the class, they need to be smaller in size so as to fit into an approximately 3/8” diameter hole so that you can hollow out a globe that will be about 2” in diameter. You will need both a straight shank and a bent shank tool.
If you have any questions, please call John Albachten at 513-325-9002.
