Register Here for 2023 Turning Symposium - 10/13/2023

Turning 2023 is the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild's biennial Symposium. It is held in a unique rural setting away from the usual hassle of a city hotel or conference center. The Higher Ground Conference & Retreat Center in Southeastern Indiana fosters an intimacy not found at other symposia.

There are on-site lodge rooms, dorms, an RV park and campground, and national chain hotels within a few minutes drive. Higher Ground is also an easy commute for residents of the tristate area. Attendees may enjoy tasty meals in a spacious dining hall where they can discuss the events of the day, get to know the demonstrators and fellow turners and sometimes see local wildlife just outside the windows.

Sign-up and payment are handled completely online. The options are completely ala-carte. You can purchase one day or one meal or up to 3 days and nine meals. Pick and choose what fits you, your schedule or budget.

We have an excellent line-up of Featured and Guest Demonstrators to entertain and educate you. There will be 45 breakout sessions of 90 minutes each over the three days. 35 of those will be by the Featured Demonstrators and 20 by the Guest Demonstrators.

There will also be many vendors to tempt you with tools, wood, accessories that you just cannot do without.

There will be two auctions. Silent and live. Auction items will be on display throughout the weekend. You will not want to miss the Saturday evening live Auction. It is always exciting and the bidding sometimes get fierce! It is a chance to collect wood turned items created by the Featured Professionals and fellow turners. You may want to donate something to the auction as the proceeds help the OVWG provide this symposium as well as other programs throughout the year.

The Instant Gallery is one of the highlights of the Symposium. We highly encourage everyone to bring up to three of their own wood turned creations to display in the Instant Gallery. There may be a drawing from each person who enters items in the Instant Gallery for a credit to be used in the Live Auction Saturday night. Stay tuned. Sill in the works.

You will not be disappointed if you sign up to attend this fabulous 3 day event. Turning 2023 is small enough to be intimate and large enough to have top demonstrators and vendors.

If you have questions about Turning 2023 feel free to contact one of our Symposium Co-Chairmen, either KC Kendall or John Albachten.

Non-Woodturning Activity

There will be a room set aside for non-turning spouses and guests to enjoy other activities such as knitting, quilting, needle work, a game of cards, or just some quiet relaxation. Tables and chairs will be available. In years past, crafters have chosen to visit local quilt or gift shops in the area, and may choose to do so again.

2023 Confirmed Guest Demonstrators
- there may be more added.

There will be a number of Guest demonstrators chosen from the talented pool of the local turning community. If you are interested in being a guest demonstrator contact Jerry Warner. jw.warner455@gmail.com

Invitation to Potential Vendors:

The Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild (OVWG) is offering the opportunity for vendors to be considered to sell their woodturning products at our “Turning 2023 Woodturning Symposium”. The October 13-15th, 2023 symposium will be held at Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center, located in Southeastern Indiana, a 30-minute drive from Cincinnati. We expect another well-attended event with more than 250 attendees expected each day.

We will have 5 talented Featured Professional Demonstrators and other regional and nationally recognized Guest Demonstrators, offering a wide range of project and tool demonstrations.

The professional demonstrators were carefully selected to exhibit a wide range of woodturning projects, the use of various tools, finishes, jigs, and specialty products. You are welcome to contact the scheduled pro-turners regarding the use of your products during any of their scheduled demonstrations. They are listed on the main symposium page.

A total of 27 vendor booths (standard size: 10' x 10') will be available.

If you are selected, we will request that you donate a woodturning tool(s) or a similar product(s) with a retail value equal to your total booth rental fee for our Auction. Upon receipt of the product donation, your booth reservation fee will be refunded to you. Your product donation will be displayed with advertising throughout the symposium at the main entrance to the demonstration area and will be auctioned on Saturday. Proceeds from the auction support OVWG activities throughout the year including our very popular youth and outreach educational programs.

Our demonstration schedule will include several breaks throughout each day intended to increase vendor area traffic. Every effort will be made by demonstrators and OVWG volunteers to promote all vendors in attendance. You will be encouraged to open your booth at 7:30 am each day, before the initial round of demonstrations starts at 8:00 am.  You may wish to focus sales efforts during the breaks between rotations and meals. Special promotions, coupons, etc. are encouraged. Let us know how we can support your sales efforts.

If you are interested in being considered as a vendor for our event, contact:

Jack Gormley,
1278 Dillon Ave,
Cincinnati OH 45208

513-678-4518,
jgormley@fuse.net

If you are accepted to be a Turning 2023 vendor Jack will provide registration process details. Confirmation of reservation will be sent no later than 2 weeks after receipt of your booth fee. One month before the symposium you will receive details on the booth setup process and timing, offload support, etc.

Vendors are responsible for their transportation,  lodging costs, and any meals they wish to have at the on-site dining facility. Entry to the symposium is included with vendor registration.
