What is this?
The class will include a mixture of small bowls, platters and surface enhancement. Airbrushing using homemade and commercial stencils will be on option for adding color so bring your airbrush (suction fed), compressor and wood dyes. (If you do not have a compressor you can use the LC compressor but you will need a regulator to reduce the pressure). Students will also use metallizing techniques, switching between reactive paints and gilts to embellish. Texture will also be added using whatever tools you have available to bring to include (but limited to) leather punches, carvers (micromotor, reciprocating, Dremel or hand), woodburners with a variety of tips, knurling and spiraling tools, or whatever else you want to use to texture the surface of a piece. The more tools the better in order to try as many techniques as possible. Nick suggests bringing the following tools: 3/8" and 1/2" bowl gouge, spindle gouge, standard skew, standard parting tool, small hammer, any leather or background punches, pyrography unit and pens, wood dye (various colors), spiraling and texturing tools, nitrile gloves, tooth brushes to apply products, cotton rag, face shield and dust mask. Other consumable supplies will be provided.
