About this event
- Topic: Learn the basics of finial design and how to turn fine finials. These are the perfect way to complement a hollow form or holiday ornament. You'll make extensive use of your spindle gouges (but not the skew chisel).
- Tools: spindle roughing gouge, spindle detail gouge, chuck.
- Skill Level: Intermediate. You need to be very comfortable rounding a blank, mounting it in the chuck, and making controlled cuts with a spindle detail gouge.
- Project: Turn a finial for the project of your choice. It will help if you bring along a piece to size the tenon that will attach your finial to your piece after the class.
- Pre-requisite: Introduction to Woodturning and the OVWG LC or a prior T&L series of classes. Also read and be familiar with the AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and the Glossary of Woodturning Terms, available on the OVWG website in the document library or by clicking the following links: AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and Woodturning Glossary”
